As pretty much any person would agree, a contemporary fire would be a welcome edition to any home. Sometimes, however, it can be a real bother to maintain and install. Gas fireplaces give the best of both worlds.
The gas fireplace is a solution for anybody who wants the benefits of a traditional fire without the hassle of buying and storing the wood, maintainence and the tidying and disposing of ash.
Gas fireplaces also require no tending at all, so once the fire is started you can just imagine yourself sitting back and enjoying the flames, not giving it any thought untill you switch it off.
A vented gas fireplace lacks the unpredictability of a traditional fire but can look incredibly realistic and just as beautifull (see article on gas log fireplaces).
A vented gas fireplace, then, is the perfect answer for anybody who wants the warmth, comfort and beauty and all the other great things a traditional fireplace gives you, whilst still being able to relax without having to worry about all the hassles that come with a traditional fireplace.
Vented vs. Ventless
All gas fireplaces are either vented or ventless and it is one of the first decisions that you will have to make. Ventless fireplaces are higher cost and are a more of a hassle to install into your home but the payoffs are pretty huge.
As opposed to a ventless fireplace, a vented fireplace can steadily burn at much lower temperatures like a traditional fire.Vented fireplaces also bring the warmth and atmosphere of a traditional fireplace. A vented gas fireplace will give you soft yellow flames like a traditional fire, whereas a ventless gas fireplace will give you an unnatural looking blue flame with it’s burner.
The most popular, well known and serious reason is safety. A vented gas fireplace is safe because all emissions are transported outside of the home by a ventilation pipe that acts as a chimney to stop dangerous gasses lurking inside the home.
On a ventless gas fireplace a sensor is supposed to detect when emissions are at high levels and then proceed to switch it off. CO2 is also supposed to be burned off on a ventless gas fireplace by burning it at a very high temperature. The risks are there.
A vent gives you the attractiveness and the comfort along with peace of mind.
